Deciding to put myself out there with photography has been a scary process for me - incredibly exciting - but definitely scary.
I don't put myself out there much even in rare moments when I am feeling somewhat confident, so suggesting to people that I would love to take their photos, being nothing more than a budding self-taught photographer was a nerve wracking decision.
I have been thinking about offering photography services for a solid year now, but only a month ago did I finally get up the guts to actually set a plan into motion. I decided to put a message out into the instagram universe asking if anybody would be interested in a free mini photoshoot to help me build my portfolio.
It took me a solid three days, and about a million deleted instagram story drafts to finally muster the courage to put the post out there, but I finally did it. As soon as I published the message my stomach was in knots and I thought seriously about deleting it. But just as I was about to hit delete, I got a shockingly quick response from one of my lovely local followers, so I decided it would be okay to hold off on the delete for the time being. So I went to sleep and decided to worry about it in the morning.
I fully expected to wake up to a slough of messages laughing at me and criticizing my work - I know, I know, I am so optimistic right? - but I was completely humbled by the number of people who were interested in letting me take their picture.
One of the responses was from a lovely friend of mine Rosemary LeBarge, and my heart jumped because I knew shooting her portrait would be an absolute blast. Even better, she promised to bring along her lovely fiance, so I could get a two for one deal.
We planned to shoot outside in the woods on a sunny afternoon and while I was super excited to shoot her, I soon found that I was incredibly nervous for my first portrait shoot. I was seriously feeling the pressure, not only because Rosemary is such a talented creator herself, but also because she was doing be a seriously huge favour and I wanted the images to be something she could be proud of.
But once she got in front of the camera, my nerves fell away and it was just fun. I soon realized I had it easy with Rosemary, because her background in modelling made her a complete pro. Basically she made me look good. So thanks Rosemary :D
We are planning a few more stylized shoots for 2018, and I am so looking forward to more shoots with this beauty.
